Pairing proven racing technology with everyday applications, the OME BP-51 shock absorbers feature
The BP-51, which stands for “bypass 51mm diameter bore”, was designed, developed, and tested entirely by ARB’s team of Old Man Emu Ride Engineers. They have been torture tested in some of Australia’s most rugged and brutal environments over the past few years and are now ready for market.
The big bore, position sensitive bypass shock absorbers with remote reservoirs are designed to be fitted to the vehicle without any need for modification or customization. The shock features a high pressure nitrogen reservoir with an aluminum, anodized floating piston. The result is enjoyable ride comfort while in town with plenty of end-zone damping for ultimate control and handling off-road.
Coilover versions of the BP-51 come with adjustable spring preload and ride height. This allows owners to cater the suspension to fit their needs. All applications use Dash 6 high temperature Teflon hose with high follow fittings for less restriction of flow and increased performance. The body, reservoir, and components of the BP-51 are all made from anodized, aircraft grade (6061 T6) aluminum. The aluminum has a type 3, 40 micron hard anodized finish for exceptional heat dissipation and resistance to corrosion and rock damage.
The OME BP-51s have external, independent adjustment of compression and rebound. Adjustments can be made while the shocks are on the vehicle and the BP-51 comes with an ultra wide range to suit a variety of load and ride preferences. They are 100% re-buildable and re-valvable for longevity and tuning. The shocks also feature a 19mm hard chromed ground shaft for ultra low friction and strength.
Rather than a “one shock fits most” scenario, ARB has designed the OME BP-51 for specific vehicle applications. No fitment modifications will be required and the shocks will be available with fit kits to match specific models of vehicles. US options are pretty much nonexistent in the first launch as ARB will only be releasing applications for the Toyota 200 Series and ’05 and newer HiLux trucks. However, ARB said other applications will follow in the second quarter of 2015.
All BP-51 shock absorbers are manufactured in-house by ARB allowing them total control of the manufacturing process to ensure quality control.
